RE
Intent
At WJS, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed as an enquiry-led and knowledge-based spiral curriculum that nurtures critical thinking, fosters a love of learning, and deepens pupils’ understanding of diverse religions, cultures, and beliefs. While we take pride in our Church of England status, we respect and encourage every child's freedom to explore and make their own choices regarding faith and belief.
Through our high-quality, broad, and balanced RE curriculum, we aim to:
- Engage pupils in meaningful enquiry and exploration of key questions related to religion, faith, and belief, promoting personal, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
- Provide a deep understanding of Christianity alongside other religious traditions and worldviews represented in Great Britain and beyond.
- Develop an awareness of the influence of beliefs, values, and traditions on individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
- Foster respect, tolerance, and a positive attitude toward those with different religious and non-religious perspectives.
- Encourage pupils to reflect on their own beliefs and values, supporting their search for identity, meaning, and purpose in life.
By embedding British Values and promoting respect and understanding, our RE curriculum helps pupils develop a strong moral compass and prepares them to contribute thoughtfully and compassionately to the wider world.
